Fishing Charters for Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Divers and Anglers

You already know the first reef line from the beach; a boat puts you on the wrecks and the Gulf Stream edge behind it.

Serving Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

Private Charters, Short Drive, Fast Fishing

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is the rare town where people reach living coral by walking into the surf, so the anglers here start from a head of knowledge most visitors never get. What the beach cannot give you is the second and third reef line, the wrecks and the blue water past them. Our offshore deep sea fishing charters out of Pompano Beach pick up where the shore dive ends. The structure and the Gulf Stream drop-off sit 1 to 5 miles offshore of Hillsboro Inlet.

How a Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Charter Day Unfolds

Anglers from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL with their catch aboard Don't Panic out of Pompano Beach

The reef you snorkel off the Datura Avenue beach portal is the inside edge of a system that keeps going east. Outside it sit ledges, the deeper reef lines and wrecks that hold fish in every month, including the snapper fishing that stays steady year round. Mutton and yellowtail press tight to the hard bottom, and grouper sit in the cuts beneath them. A boat, a drop and the right bait is the only way onto that water.

Most residents here book a four-hour half day, which is enough water time to work two or three wrecks and troll the drop-off on the way back in. That trip is $850 as a private charter, and the morning slot usually gets the cleaner water. Six and eight hour trips suit groups who want to reach the Gulf Stream edge and stay on a weed line once they find one.

Seasons here read off the weather more than the calendar. When a winter front drops through and the wind swings north, the sailfish bite off this coast turns on and the kites go up. Warm months put mahi-mahi on the weed lines offshore, with wahoo and blackfin tuna working the same blue water. Snapper, grouper and kingfish fill the weeks in between.

Both Don't Panic sportfishing boats run with a captain and a mate aboard. Each has an air-conditioned salon, a galley and an enclosed head, so a long day offshore does not have to be a rough one. Licenses, rods, reels, bait, ice and water come with the charter, and you bring food, drinks and sunscreen. Private trips carry up to 6 guests, which covers most condo groups and dive club crews coming over from the beach.

Angler Reviews

Trips Worth Talking About

"Booked a morning charter with 3 friends and had a fantastic time with Capt. Lucas and John. They were well organized and very knowledgeable about the Mahi we were fishing for. John did an excellent job keeping the lines rigged up, knew exactly when the fish were jumping, and made sure we had a catch to take home with us. They were super friendly and a pleasure to spend the morning with. Would absolutely book Don’t Panic Sport-fishing again."

Half-Day Fishing Charter

"Had awesome time at Dont Panic sportfishing with our crew of four with captain Ron and first mate Damien. Caught baracuda, tuna, mahi mahi, had them fileted and prepared at the restaurant of choice for an end to end fishing trip experience. Ron is easy to work with, fun and down to earth small business owner that we highly recommend."

"Captain Ron and his mate, Damian, were absolutely amazing. Beautiful boat, and we were on tuna fast - we started catching them very quickly. The whole trip was fun, relaxed, and run like a well-oiled machine. They truly know how to treat people and make everyone have a great time. I couldn’t recommend them more - if you’re thinking about booking, do it!"

Why Book with Us

Fishing Past the Reef You Already Snorkel

The hard part about fishing this town is not finding fish, it is the gap between what you can reach from the sand and what needs a hull under you. The first reef off the Datura Avenue beach portal and the Shipwreck Snorkel Trail are shore-accessible, which is close to unique in this country. Everything behind them, the SS Copenhagen included, is a boat trip. We work that water out of Hillsboro Inlet all year, and anglers who split their time with our Fort Lauderdale charters get the same two crews either way.

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea has no inlet of its own, so every boat fishing this stretch of coast comes in from one of the inlets north or south of town. Hillsboro Inlet is the near one, and our dock sits beside it in Pompano Beach. The reefs, the wrecks and the Gulf Stream drop-off all sit 1 to 5 miles offshore of that inlet.

Conditions matter more here than in most places because the fishing is so close in. A north wind pushing against the Gulf Stream stands the sea up quickly on the reef line, and a clean morning can go sloppy by noon. We watch the forecast and we will move a trip rather than spend your money on a beating. Send the dates you are working with and you will get a straight answer about the window.

Neighborhoods and Landmarks

Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Block by Block

The El Mar Drive beachfront

The ocean side of El Mar Drive is still low-rise, which is why the small hotels along it fill with the same guests every winter. Those guests book on short notice, often the evening before, after a day in the water leaves them wondering what is further out. Morning departures work best for anyone staying on this strip.

Terra Mar

Terra Mar sits on the Intracoastal side of the island, and a good share of the homes there have private dockage. People who already own a boat know what the near reef holds, so when they charter it is to go farther and fish harder. A full eight-hour day is the usual request out of this neighborhood.

The Commercial Boulevard village

The few walkable blocks where Commercial Boulevard meets the beach are the center of town, with Pelican Square on the corner and Anglin's Fishing Pier at the end. Visitors staying in this pocket walk everywhere, and a charter fits the same habit of leaving the car parked. We handle a lot of first-time bookings from this handful of streets.
