Oakland Park straddles I-95 just north of Fort Lauderdale, with Dixie Highway and Federal Highway running through its east side. Any of the three gets you to Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach in about 15 minutes, then a couple of turns to the dock near Hillsboro Inlet. Guests from Downtown Oakland Park can leave at 6:30 AM and still make the 6:45 check-in.
Party boats have their place, but crowded rails, shared lines, and waiting your turn can make an exciting day frustrating. Why Oakland Park Anglers Skip the Port and Drive North
Oakland Park sits between two departure choices: Port Everglades to the south and Hillsboro Inlet to the north. Hillsboro wins on distance to fish, because the reef edge and the drop-off are only a few miles out. The inlet's protected approach also makes for a comfortable departure when it is bumpy elsewhere. That is a real advantage for guests who want to maximize time fishing rather than riding.
