Margate sits on the western side of Broward County between Coconut Creek and North Lauderdale, roughly 12 miles from the ocean. Take Atlantic Boulevard east from State Road 7 or Rock Island Road, cross I-95 and Federal Highway, and you are in Pompano Beach. Most guests park at the dock 20 minutes after leaving the Oriole Gardens or Paradise Gardens gates. On weekend mornings the road is nearly empty.
The Atlantic can turn choppy quickly, and reef structure off Hillsboro Inlet requires precise navigation. Captain Ron has spent decades on these waters and knows which wrecks hold amberjack in summer, which reef edges gather snapper after a storm, and when the kingfish push through. Winter is the headline season for Margate anglers. Cold fronts from November through March push sailfish within sight of the beach, and a 20-minute drive means you can book around a good front instead of a calendar. Why Margate Boaters Trust a Pompano Beach Crew
Margate has plenty of lakes and canals but no route to the ocean, so residents who want to fish offshore have always driven east. Hillsboro Inlet is the closest inlet by road, and it opens onto the continental-shelf drop-off within a few miles. That geography is why our boat is docked in Pompano Beach and not somewhere farther down the coast.
Local knowledge matters as much as the inlet. The waters between the beach and the deep zones can hold sudden squalls, strong current, and heavy holiday traffic.
